Fall Planting Isn't Over! Save 25% and Discover Your Next Native Garden Favorites
Share
Fall is one of the best times to plant in North Texas, and there's still time to create a landscape that supports birds, butterflies, bees, and other wildlife!
With 25% off our remaining Fall Native Plant Sale inventory, now is a great opportunity to add native plants to your garden.
Not sure where to start? We're highlighting some of the wonderful plants still available, along with a few suggested combinations to help you create beautiful, wildlife-friendly spaces.
Native plants support birds in ways that aren't always obvious. By providing food and habitat for insects, producing seeds, and creating shelter, they help sustain the wildlife that depends on healthy native landscapes.
Pollinator Favorites Worth Another Look
Some of our remaining plants are especially valuable for creating habitat.
Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa)
With its vibrant orange flowers, Butterfly Milkweed brings beautiful color to sunny gardens. But its real value goes beyond its blooms.
As a native milkweed, it serves as a host plant for monarch and queen butterfly caterpillars, while its flowers provide nectar for visiting pollinators.
It's an excellent choice for gardeners looking to support butterflies throughout their life cycles.
Beebrush (Aloysia gratissima)
Beebrush may not be the flashiest plant in the garden, but when its fragrant white flowers appear, pollinators take notice!
This native shrub offers nectar for bees, butterflies, and other insects, making it a valuable addition to a wildlife-friendly landscape. Its airy growth habit also adds texture to native plantings.
Skeleton-leaf Goldeneye (Viguiera stenoloba)
Looking for sunny yellow flowers that can handle North Texas conditions?
Skeleton-leaf Goldeneye is a drought-tolerant native perennial with cheerful yellow blooms that provide nectar and pollen for visiting insects. Its fine-textured foliage makes it an attractive choice for naturalistic landscapes.
Autumn Sage (Salvia greggii) - Red, White, Coral, Pink, 'Teresa'
A longtime favorite for good reason!
Autumn Sage brings colorful flowers and hummingbird activity to sunny gardens. We still have several varieties available, offering an opportunity to add different flower colors to your landscape.
Don't Overlook the Groundcovers!
Native gardens need more than flowers.
Low-growing plants help fill gaps, protect the soil, and create a more diverse landscape. Some of our remaining inventory includes:
- Frogfruit (Phyla nodiflora) — Its tiny flowers may be easy to overlook, but Frogfruit is a powerhouse for pollinators and a favorite for gardeners looking for low-growing native groundcovers in place of traditional turf in suitable areas.
- Horseherb (Calyptocarpus vialis) — A spreading native with delicate yellow flowers, particularly useful in areas with some shade.
- Woodland Sedge (Carex blanda) — A grass-like native sedge that adds soft texture to shaded garden spaces.
These plants can help turn underused areas into functioning habitat.
Three Plant Combinations to Inspire Your Next Garden Project
Not sure what to plant next?
We've put together three combinations using plants from our remaining inventory. Whether you're starting a new garden or filling in an existing landscape, these ideas can help you choose plants that work well together.
1. The Sunny Pollinator Garden
Try combining:
This combination provides colorful flowers, multiple nectar sources, and host plants for butterfly caterpillars. Frogfruit can fill in around taller flowering plants to create a layered planting.
Best for: Sunny spaces where you want to welcome butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
2. The Native Groundcover Starter
Try combining:
Not every wildlife-friendly garden needs full sun! These plants bring contrasting foliage textures and seasonal interest to partly shaded landscapes. Woodland Sedge and Horseherb can help fill areas beneath trees, while Golden Groundsel offers cheerful spring flowers in spots with more consistent moisture.
Best for: Partly shaded beds, garden edges, and areas where conventional turf struggles.
3. Bring Home a Little Prairie
Try combining:
Want to bring a little prairie character to your landscape?
Native grasses provide structure, shelter, and resources for wildlife, while flowering plants contribute color and support pollinators.
Big Bluestem is a tall prairie grass, so give this combination adequate room to develop.
Best for: Sunny, naturalistic gardens with space for taller grasses.
These are suggested planting combinations, not prepackaged products. Shop individual plants and choose quantities that work for your space. Availability may change as the sale continues.
